Writing your exam online using “exam.net.”
We are going to assume that your teacher has uploaded a PDF version of the exam and that you are going to answer using black pen and paper (you are not going to answer online using your computer). At the end of the exam you are going to scan your answer pages. When all the pages have been scanned you are going to submit.
You will need. . .
- To be at your desk, (logged in to Microsoft Teams) and ready to write at least 15 minutes before the exam.
- A stable internet connection with a lot of data (suggest 15Mb) to download the exam paper.
- A computer with which to view the exam paper.
- A smart phone with QR scanner software installed – suggested “CAM Scanner” or “Clear Scanner”
- Your smart phone must have data in order to upload your work (suggest 15Mb)
- Your appointed invigilator.
- Your exam invigilation declaration signed by your invigilator as well as yourself.
- An exam pad.
- A BLACK pen and DARK pencil to write/draw your responses – do not use blue pen. Blue does not scan well and this can make marking difficult or even impossible.
- Six dark coloured pencils (not yellow) may be useful.
- Your teacher may have emailled you some material before the exam. Print this out (or copy it by hand) and have it ready.
During the exam do the following . . .
- Write neatly and clearly and space out your work by leaving lines between answers.
- Put your name on all answer pages. Teachers will print out your work and your work may get mixed up in the school’s printer room.
- Number your answers clearly – exactly like the question paper.
- Number your pages. See above. Things can go wrong during the printing process.
- In your browser you must remain in full screen mode at all times (only the exam is visible). If you leave full screen mode your teacher will be informed and you may be locked out for a period.
- If your device crashes during the exam inform your teacher via Microsoft Teams. You will be provided with an individual exam code to continue the exam on another device.
- Write “The End” on the last page after your last answer.
How will it all work?
- To access the exam you will receive a unique exam.net code (via Microsoft Teams/WhatsApp etc). Once you have accessed the exam, and it appears on your computer screen, you can also message your teacher via the built in chat bot (or use Microsoft Teams/WhatsApp).
- When you have finished your exam, click on “Scan Solution” on your computer. This will give you a QR code on your computer screen. You then scan the code with your phone.
- Your phone screen will give you a code to enter into exam.net via your computer.
- You will get 15 minutes to scan your work after the exam has ended.
- Scan your invigilators declaration as page one – and then scan the rest of your answer pages. They are scanned one by one.
- Scan your pages in order, using your numbered pages.
- THE END will tell you that you have scanned them all.
- Please ensure that the answer pages are well lit during the scanning process. Teachers cannot mark what they cannot see.
- If I were you – I would also email my scanned answer pages to the teacher’s email address – but this is just me.
- When all pages have been scanned, hit “Submit exam” on your computer screen.
- After the exam staple your answer pages together and store in a safe place. If something goes wrong you have a record of your work.
- Many teachers will want the hardcopy for your personal portfolio file which is kept at school.
- Cheating. Personally I set my exams in such a way that you cannot Google the answer. Neither will your study notes be of any use. You have to know your work to do well.
